Hello everyone,

I'm pet sitting a corn snake for a friend and I've had him about two
weeks. He shed about a week ago. He is now looking yellowish on his
sides since he shed... is that normal? Or is that a problem? I don't
know anything about them other than what my friend said... he's set up
the same way my friend had him in his aquarium with lights and heat
etc... he's due to eat again today and I noticed when I went to feed
him. He's a nice snake... not sure how old but fairly small (guessing
18" to 2ft?)... at least a year old maybe up to two?

Any help on if I need to worry about this? And sorry if this is a
stupid newbish question... I'm new to the snake thing... the group
thing... everything LOL. I just want to take the best care I can of
this guy for my friend.

Thanks so much for any advice.

"Maybe."

Maybe it's normal (post-shed colors are usually much more vibrant; since he
was near shed when you starting caring for him, he was probably relatively
dull in appearance). Did the yellow become noticeable as soon as he shed,
or did it develop later?

Maybe it's a problem (indicative of stress or infection). Have you or the
owner changed anything about his living conditions (different bedding,
different brand/source of feeder mice, different temps/humidity etc)?

No I haven't changed anything. However he is in my house now not my
friends house. We brought the whole set up here and his lights are on
timers. He has a heating pad under one half. The bedding is the same
and the mice are the ones his owner brought for me... they are frozen
and then I defrost them in their plastic bag in warm water until they
are soft and warm before feeding. He gets bottled water. He also has a
humidty gauge and temp guage and both are just over into the red which
is where my friend said they should be. He could be stressed from the
move of his habitat here though. He's like a pinkish muted color but
after he shed his sides looked yellowish orange... I can't say if that
is how they should look because I don't know what he looks like
normally after he sheds. Of course now I look at every little thing he
does and wonder if it's normal. My friend didn't bring me any bedding
to clean his aquarium out so I assumed he wouldn't need it while he
was gone (one month). If that's a problem I can go buy some at the pet
store.

THANKS!!!!!

I wouldn't worry about it. Corn snakes are pretty durable and if there are
no obvious signs something is wrong (big sores on its belly, mites, etc)
then maybe that's just his natural post-shed color.

Shouldn't need to change the bedding, just spot-clean the poop.
