Sunday is the Day o' Chores for me and mine; rain or shine. And
today was mostly rain with a spine-chilling wind thrown in to
make me very uncomfortable while doing my outside chores.

Many of the chores are mind-numbingly repetitive; moving the
garbage and recycling bins to curb, cutting the grass, and
raking leaves. There's a certain comfort in these though.

I noticed a LARGE pile of damp leaves that the wind had cycled
into a corner of my porch so I went over and picked them up.
Imagine my inner-child's delight as something very cold and
moist moved across my wrist in its attempted escape.

Well, maybe "child's delight" doesn't describe the high-pitched
squeal that escaped as my inner child allowed its worst
nightmare to run amok -- a black widow.

As I groped to grab the multi-legged moisture scampering down
the back of my hand, I noticed that it was [hopefully!] much
too large for the fantasy-driven arachnid I was imagining.

I was able to prevent myself from hucking said beastie away
into the bushes. Lady Luck also slapped me silly as I opened my
hand to stare at the following creature:

Aneides lugubris - Arboreal Salamander

(or when the above link breaks --

I'd like to attempt keeping it for a while. What are the basics
I'll need and are there any books that would be of immediate
benefit?

Many thanks!

Lady Luck giveth and, with pixie-like capriciousness, she
taketh away.

This salamander performed something no other amphibian or
reptile has prior; it escaped from Stalag 17. My Exoterra
Faunarium (capture hold) was critterless this morning.

First off, I'm curious _how_ it might have been able to perform
its Houdini-like escape given the item pictured below:
http://www.petco.com/product/10669/Exo-Terra-Faunarium-Plastic-Terrariums.aspx

The lid was still firmly clipped in place and there were no
breaks in the seal (between lid and cage). Even the smaller
cousins (batrachoseps attenuatus) haven't been able to get
out-and-about once enclosed in this terrarium.

Second, where should I be searching for said escapee? I'm
concerned that the extreme aridness throughout the entire
garage will not allow it to live very long.
